Alex Rennie
| Alex Rennie – Red & Sienna
This exhibition typifies Rennie’s style: bold illusions of light that dance around the pictorial space. The exhibition includes new explorations of mythology and cityscapes, where effects of light are depicted with hot hues whether night - time in London or Greek mysticism.
The colour red runs through most of the pieces. Red is associated with bravery, purity, happiness, heat and energy, good luck and are emotions that “stir the blood”, This spectrum of light allows us the longest wavelength of light discernible by the human eye
After what can only be described as a phenomenal year, this talented artist’s development has gone from strength to strength and the energy evident in much of his early work has matured into a vibrant
and unique style. During the last year Rennie has received acclaim and just recognition for his new work. His paintings are much sought-after by avid collectors of contemporary art worldwide. Rennie’s work is diverse, mature and has assured brushstrokes.
His quest to constantly develop as an artist demands that his paintings are fresh and exciting.
Artists such as Goya, Rembrandt, Caravaggio and Peter Doig are reflected in this new body of work. In the painting Actaeon – Doors a narrative piece which enables him to use his figurative work with life models, use of colour and energetic brush work creates a modern take on the classic style that brings his subject matter to life.
