| Edwin Hedge - Born 1950
Born in Ghent, Edwin Hedge grew up in Highgate, North London, and graduated
from the Courtauld Institute of Art. Much of his life has been spent painting abroad, including the U.S., and several years spent in Africa (Malawi & Kenya), Russia, Malaysia and Egypt.
The main influence on his art has been platonic thought, as expressed in the "uncreated light" of icon painting. He is seen as an artist in the English mystical tradition of Blake, Palmer, Stanley Spencer, and Cecil Collins.
His pictures are built up carefully, using egg tempera under painting overlaid with many glazes and scumbles.
